Nurse Mommy Thursdays

Currently, I am having solo {Nurse Mommy Thursdays}and I have to admit it has been really stressful! For those of you who know what Oliver's schedule looks like, you understand that a {Nurse Mommy Thursday} means that I simply hop to his every need all day long...with next to NO TIME for myself (not even to eat, shower, etc) unless I can squeeze it in between his needs and only really during nap time {if he naps that Thursday} Also, we have no Saturday nor Sunday nursing coverage. {Sighs}

That all being said, we are struggling to get all "Christmas-y" around here! Tho, we did manage to put up the Christmas Tree this week and got the house looking festive! This is a huge improvement...Ilse was begging for it and I just couldn't put it off any longer, stomach flu be damned! Now, the lights twinkle inside and Mother Nature has blessed us with the graceful white fluff outside...things are on the upswing!

If only we could find time for Christmas Card Making, Christmas Gift Shopping, the Get-Togethers, Parties......then there's all the wrapping & labeling that will be no doubt LAST MINUTE...why is there such a shortage of time around here? OH YAH, everything still has to work on a schedule in our house. A schedule created specifically for a sweet, innocent little boy whose life depends on us following that schedule for everything he needs in life... and we cannot let him down!

December 17, 2009 will mark 5 years that we have been blessed to have Oliver living with us at home, instead of his being required to stay in the hospital for doctor's and nurses there to care for his every need...

It's been 5 years of...Administering unbelievable amounts of medicine EVERY SINGLE DAY to such a small child; Feeding him through a tube in his stomach because he couldn't and is still too afraid to eat by mouth; Making special blenderized meals of allergen free, all organic, vegetarian, gluten-free/dairy free/sugar free/yeast free foods; Ordering INSANE amounts of durable medical supplies month after month; Receiving 10-16 large pressurized oxygen tanks per week just to keep the right amount of oxygen in his blood/body/brain...not to mention innumerable portable tanks for the INNUMERABLE appointments for medical testing and physicians he is required to see; Keeping inventory on all medications, supplies, and countless trips to the pharmacy or other stores for medications, Rx or OTC, and always ALWAYS in search of saving money because who knows what this little boy will need next; Listening hard and long to every teacher, therapist, evaluator, specialist as they assess our son for the 1st {or 5th or 50th} time and take every suggestion & run it through what we know/think is best for our son, then implement to the best of our abilities and means to provide said suggested item(s); PHONE CALLS; PAPERWORK; HEARTACHE so bad we think we are physically going to break in two; WORRYING more than we've ever EVER worried-Will he need us forever? Will we even OUTLIVE him?; Handing our son over to so many specialists in hospital Pre-Op Areas for more procedures than any child should ever have to endure; Seeing our then 3 y/o medically dependant AGAIN on pain medication after 3 surgeries in 6weeks time...acting like a drug addict looking for his next fix; Still Changing diapers when our son is a full 5.5yrs old; Watching him cry crocodile tears because he wants so BAD to sing, but he doesn't have enough breath support to speak let alone sing!; Learning that our hands & his hands can {say} EVERYTHING that needs saying!; Balancing all 4 kids needs, not just the {special} one's needs; Learning who our REAL friends are!; Understanding what FAMILY really is!; Teaching Oliver to Read; Staying home because it is BEST for Oliver; Being STARED AT and ASKED A MILLION QUESTIONS if we do get out of the house once in a while; A HANDICAPPED PARKING placard hanging in window for the foreseeable future; Losing friendships- Ours and the ones Oliver has never got to make!; Lack of Understanding-our lack of understanding of the {normal} any longer and other people's lack of understanding for us; ISOLATION; Small Victories; Organization; Respect; Cooperation; Pets; LAUGHTER; Bathtub Fun; Finding hidden talents we didn't know we had...and most of all, Finding a way every single day to keep on going, giving everything we can to our family to make that day the best we could make it for them!

So, even if the presents don't get wrapped this Christmas; Even if we don't go to every holiday event we are invited to; Even if we don't make the biggest, best Christmas meal; Even if we don't put up Christmas lights outside for the neighbors to see; Even if we don't DO or SAY or CHOOSE what others think we SHOULD...we are doing what matters most- this Christmas and every day of the year! We assume you are too!

what kind of a mother bitches and moans about caring for their child! many, many people in this world have special needs children and i have never heard anyone complain about caring for their own child the way you do. SHAME ON YOU! you should be ashamed of yourself

@ Anonymous: No, shame on YOU! You have no idea who you are talking to or what she has been through! She wasn't bitching and moaning, I don't know how you interpreted it that way. I know her in real life and she is a courageous mother who loves all of her children. Blogging is a means of expression, and it should be a safe place to lay out what your life is like and get SUPPORT, without having to deal with the kind of cruel garbage you just spewed all over the place. Do you think this is helpful? Do you think you lightened her burden or helped her or her family in any way? God help you. Take your judgments back to your cave, troll.

troll hater...it is your choice to defend a whiny, pitiful person, just as it is my choice to expose the truth! she is a complaining, lousy mother, and like i said she should be VERY VERY ashamed of herself!

one more thing troll hater...how can you call her life a burden??? if she is so wonderful then the care of her child should be a delight no matter how hard...it should NEVER be considered a burden! you must be one of her brain-washed little drons!

Anonymous,
Wow, takes a lot of courage to criticize someone and hide who you actually are.
So do you just surf blogs and comment on people and hide who you are.
haha, you are so far off base, you do not even know what you are talking about.
I am not going to waste my time defending what she said. You are coming off pretty bad every time you open your mouth.

like i said to troll hater... you have the choice to defend her, as i have the choice to speak the truth. it takes a horrible person inside and out to bitch about taking care of her own child.

Anonymous doesn't have a clue or any compassion for anyone in life. I am curious: Are you a Christian? Obviously, you have never had it hard in life. Any human will crumble under pressure at some point. And I didn't take this post as "bitching". She is my sister and their family on both sides doesn't really know the extent of what she and the rest of the family go through. My sister is a great mother and loves everyone of her children. Anonymous, I hope you never have it hard and someone treats you this way.

substoI am an RN who worked for this family part-time for the first 2-1/2 years after this special child came home. I was always amazed at how very little complaining was done under such difficult circumstances. While I've always found Renee to be a very vocal person who copes with stress by venting,I never got the impression that she felt sorry for herself. It was always alot of work to take care of this little guy and there is no end in sight. He is very obviosly loved by his family. Also,Renee is a very honest person. She tells it like it is. And I will sign my name.-Gina M.

ok anonymous
we get it, you don't like her. I ask you this though, why do you continue to come back to this website and comment? You won't say who you are, you just continue to hide and shoot over insults. What are you getting out of this? You can see people coming to her side to say that you are wrong, why do you continue? I don't get it. Does this make you happy to trash a mother of a handicapped child? A trashing that has no facts, just you calling names. You obviously do not get it, or maybe you do and you are just being mean to be mean. There is nothing more for you to say except who you are and why you know all this stuff about her. So if you are this supposed good person who has the right to say such things and you are so smart that you can see this about her, let us know who you are.
Don't bother with the "you have a right to defend her" crap or anything else. If you want to be taken seriously, stop hiding. If not go away, seriously. You are basically being as horrible as you claim she is by acting this way towards her.

are you burning up to find out???? who is this person who knows the truth. who is this person that might know all your secrets. who is this person that could quite possibly blow all your dirty little secrets out of the closet. an old friend? maybe??? a family member? maybe??? someone who watches from the outside? maybe??? you should both stop using your child as a pawn. you should take what you've got and be happy. stop using your child for pity and sympathy. SHAME SHAME SHAME on you both! i've said my piece good-bye.
