Nurse Mommy Tuesday In Progress...

So, Nurse Mommy Tuesday is in full swing...and it is only 0913!  Poor Ollie didn't sleep well at all last night and he is showing the effects of it already this morning.

Ollie's O.T. cancelled her {Make-up} session for 0930 just now; She forgot that she already has a regular load of 6 kids in the elementary school to see this morning.  {Sighs}  She will just come see Oliver for his regularly scheduled session on Thursday morning.  The reason we needed this {Make-up} session is because last week, the O.T. due to a Meeting that was going {long} and Ollie didn't get O.T. last week at all.  These things happen.  {God knows, Oliver has had his share of medical appointments that I have just been unable to schedule around scheduled therapy time.}

So, now we are hanging out, reading books together and waiting on the Deaf Education Tutor... Jill.  We love Jill.  Jill and Ollie totally get each other.  Oliver soaks up all of her new vocabulary and concepts like a sponge.  I love to watch that happen.  {How many parents get to watch their child in school every day?}  Jill also is wonderfully fluent in American Sign Language which is {CRUCIAL} in my mind for Oliver, as it is his first language and the only language in which he is able to express himself.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE, you say??  Yah, we are all signing along too!  We cannot communicate with Ollie nor teach him new words if we don't know sign language too, so we chose {A Long Time Ago} that American Sign Language was the way to go.  We heard about {SIGNING TIME DVDs} from a Nutritionist {go figure!} who was helping us with Oliver's complicated medical dietary needs.  Now, we own all of the Series 1 & 2 {SIGNING TIME DVD'S}.  Now we are hoping to incorporate {SIGNING TIME-Classroom Edition} into Oliver's school day with his tutor here at home.  So far, one set of Grandparents have contributed some funds as a Christmas Gift to Oliver, so we are hopeful.

Hang on! 0930 Medication must be prepped and administered and I'm Nurse Mommy today, so.....

Okay, I'm back!  Had to crush a pill then dissolve it in water in a syringe before I could give it, along with another medication then flush.   FLUSH?   Yes, flush.  Oliver does NOT take any of his food nor prescription medications by mouth, but by G-Tube.  So, in order to keep the extension tubing connected to his G-Tube nice and clean and free of blockages, we have several water flushes throughout the day; BUT NOT EVERY time we give medication & food {because Oliver has a daily fluid restriction due to his continued, severe chronic lung disease} but we do have these water flushes at scheduled intervals daily.

Now I really have to end this post.  I must prepare Oliver's Age Appropriate Medical Food Formula, known as EO28 Splash before Jill {Tutor} gets here and that requires two hands.  Remember, everything around here is on a schedule! {Wink!}
